In the middle of Basel, we offer on more than 1000m², in addition to a daycare center, a flexible bookable childcare, a range of courses for young and old, lecture series on current educational topics and modern event spaces for your own event. Discover our versatile offer.
Our offer
Childcare at Sternenmehr is a high quality childcare offer for children from the age of three to primary school age, which can be booked at short notice.
Childcare staff and scope of care
The care is provided by professionals at daycare level, but because it can be booked at short notice, even for individual hours or days, it does not pursue an educational standard comparable to a daycare center.
Opening hours
The Sternenmehr is open on weekdays from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm and on Saturdays from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. There are no vacations or closing days except for the week between Christmas and New Year's Day and public holidays and Carnival Monday.
Meals
A complete meal service is offered, including breakfast, snack, lunch, afternoon snack and, if required, dinner. The meals have been awarded the "Fourchette verte - Ama Terra" label and are thus based on the criteria for balanced meals for young children according to the Swiss food pyramid. The baby mash is mainly prepared by ourselves in organic quality. If special food is required, we use long-standing daycare suppliers in organic quality and branded products.

You can get an overview of the costs on the factsheet "Overview prices Sternenmehr". In addition to meals (individually bookable), all hygiene products are included. All excursions and participation in the day program carried out as part of childcare are also included in the price.
Please note:
- For the organization of childcare we currently require a lead time of 48 hours (two working days).
- If we have less than three bookings or children at the same time for care at Sternenmehr on a Saturday, the price is CHF 35.00 per hour of care. We can always inform you 48 hours before the start of the desired care about the current booking situation.
- According to §8 of the Regulation on the Care of Children in Day Care Centers and Day Families (Kindertagesstätten- und Tagesfamilienverordnung, KTV), a child can be cared for at Sternenmehr for a maximum of 16 hours per week.
Sternenmehr offers a wide range of courses and workshops. Currently, courses are offered in the following categories:
Creativity
A large and light-flooded meeting and working space is available for small and large artists. Adapted to the seasons and seasonality, we create and organize courses for all ages. We give free rein to creativity and work with a wide variety of materials. We try out different techniques such as creative painting, drawing, sculpting, pottery, printing and more. We create our own works of art. Seasonal activities such as Advent wreath making, egg dyeing, door decorations or knitting your own hat will also have their place.
Music and movement
In our bright and spacious premises numerous movement and music offers for children and adults take place. Our constantly growing offer is to cover different interests from music, dance, yoga to self-defense courses. With the creative studio, movement room and the bistro corner, we create a place for young and old to meet. Through joint meetings, different generations come together, such as the daycare children and the seniors from "Hopp-la Tandem, Generations in Motion".

In music for toddlers we experiment with materials and instruments, do playful exercises for gross and fine motor development, learn various songs and much more. The music is always present during the lesson through the improvised accompanying music as well as the selected pieces of music.
Nutrition
Nutrition plays a central role in our everyday lives. On the one hand, it is important for our well-being and health, on the other hand, a delicious and fine meal is a pleasure for the palate and soul. In our courses we would like to consider both aspects. What is important for a healthy diet? How can I serve a fine and balanced meal easily and quickly? But also how do I conjure up beautiful and delicious treats such as Christmas cookies or Basler Läckerli biscuits on the table.

Emergency aid for small children
Since 2016, we have been offering high-quality, everyday and correspondingly valuable and popular emergency aid courses in German and English in collaboration with a qualified nurse HF and BLS-AED instructor. The courses are aimed at parents, grandparents, nannies and other caregivers. Participants gain confidence in dealing with accident-related emergency situations and medical conditions in children.
In cooperation with internal as well as external experts, we organize series of lectures on everyday pedagogical topics. The goal is to educate and strengthen interested and affected persons in the respective topic and to provide them with possible tools.
The Sternenmehr event space is located on the second floor of the Kirschgarten commercial building in the heart of Basel. It is the ideal place for events of all kinds and multifunctional usable.
